Hearing the word "spectacle" may conjure up a lot of visual connotations, but second-thought easily brings to mind aural associations as well.  Whether it's as the starting point or an added accompaniment, music has had a long relationship with the spectacular in art and entertainment.  Tonight we'll run the gamut from Tropicalia, 17th century opera, film music, punk rock, vaudeville, and blues, all with an eye and an ear towards the showstoppers of music history.

Tune in to CIUT 89.5FM tonight at midnight (EST) and have a listen. If you're outside the station's terrestrial range, you can stream the show live online, or listen to the podcast on the Playlists page starting sometime tomorrow.

And, if this puts you in the mood to attend a musical spectacle in person, check out Friday (June 15) night's Tropicalia themed show at the Music Gallery: the David Arcus Ensemble will be playing with Bernice.  Hope to see you there!
